Sarah is happy to now call Australia her home.

Meet Sarah, the founder and teacher of Satoyama Yoga

Sarah started her Yoga practice about 12 years ago during her university studies of Buddhism and Comparative Religion in Amsterdam. She needed a physical practice to complement her meditation practice at the time. She found yoga and has practiced ever since.

Sarah is originally from Germany but ever since she can remember she had a longing of being somewhere else than where she grew up.

Sarah has always had an adventurous and deeply reflective nature. She deeply cares about the people in her life and the well-being of the world in the greater realm.

At the age of 12 she first encountered Buddhism in school and this changed her life. She started exploring Eastern wisdom and has since admired ancient Chinese and Japanese culture, wisdom and medicine.

At the age of 16 Sarah did an exchange year in Japan, where she felt home, as if she had arrived. Up to this day she nourishes the relationships she has with the friends and family there. Japan is still her all-time favourite place in this world.

It was a natural development to pursue Buddhist studies at university to follow her passion and interests.

After university, Sarah travelled through India for some months, where she did her first yoga teacher training in traditional Hatha Yoga. And even though it was an incredibly transformative journey, she wasn’t too sure about the deistic aspects of that yoga tradition.

She met her Australian now husband in Portugal and a year later, in 2018, moved with him to Sydney, his hometown. Sarah is happy to now call Australia her home, living currently in Sydney with her husband and son.

In Sydney, Sarah found the yoga tradition of Japanese Yoga, which she began to practice 6 years ago. Since then, she has done two intensive one-year trainings, holding a cert.IV in teaching Japanese Remedial Yoga Therapy and a 750-hour training in Japanese Meridian Yoga Therapy.

Japanese Yoga is her to go practice and she loves teaching this kind of yoga, both online and in person. It’s her passion to share more about this practice and make it accessible for people with all different kinds of needs.

Sitting Meditation is an integrate part of Sarah’s personal practice.
